October 2022

Gavin Long, Executive Director of the Economics of Mutuality (EoM) platform and Co-founder and Partner of Acacia Group, shared a keynote slot at the annual Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit in Texas this October with Jay Jakub, EoM Chief of Staff and Director of the EoM Foundation.

They spoke to nearly 200 purpose-driven CEOs about how EoM, a groundbreaking management and investment innovation based on 15+ years of in-depth research and practice, can drive mutual value creation to help executives implement stakeholder capitalism in very practical ways.

Their outline of the EoM approach included how:

  • EoM starts with a ‘Copernican-type revolution’ whereby the company’s leaders de-center the firm and its shareholder maximisation from the center of their business ecosystems (their ‘universe’) – putting purpose in its place.

  • Purpose then becomes the lens through which an ecosystem is populated with the right stakeholders to help the firm truly deliver the purpose of its business activity.

  • The EoM methodology then surfaces ‘painpoints’ among key stakeholders and crafts different means to address the most impactful ones through interventions that release superior value creation for society, nature, profitability, and business resilience.

  • In this manner, companies can begin to move away from the limiting assumption that profit must be traded for doing good for people and planet – and instead use impact to drive performance in ways that can scale and transform.

Jay also delivered a keynote on EoM at the 2019 Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit. You can watch that recording here.

Gavin and Jay also appeared together at the 2020 Annual Asian Insights Conference hosted by DBS Bank in Singapore to discuss EoM with a panel that included Temasek Vice-Chairman Robin Hu. That recording is available here.
