Injustice Anywhere Is a Threat to Justice Everywhere

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.
— Martin Luther King Jr.

As we witness a war that evokes a time since past; as we see humanitarian rights being trampled; as we see the intense suffering of the Ukrainian people; as we see the world profoundly disrupted and on the brink of despair; these words of the late Martin Luther King Jr. remind us of the importance of having one another and of nurturing mutual relationships.

Our thoughts and hearts are with the courageous people of Ukraine who fight for their freedom and dignity. In doing so, they are also fighting for our freedom and dignity. Their strength and resilience in the face of adversity is a beacon of light amid the darkness. An incredible source of inspiration.

Where evil abounds, mercy and compassion abound the more. And each of us, at some point in life, is called to embrace the humbling duty to consider the other as a neighbor, to act upon that duty, and to strive to become a carrier of hope.

This calling is not for individuals alone. It is also an imperative for the private sector. Companies and investors can do much to alleviate people’s suffering in this period of great tribulation. They can also contribute to the eventual post-war reconstruction and accelerate the transition to a fairer and more mutual economic system which will, in turn, build a fairer society.
